Salamanca Spain

Today was a very busy day with a visit to Salamanca Spain.  There was a 2 hour bus ride each way, not my favourite, but it was worth it because Salamanca is a lovely place.  We had a guided tour of the old city by a local guide taking in the key site as you will see in the photos.  Salamanca is known as the golden city because of the limestone buildings that have a golden hue.  It is best known for its university as well as its 2 cathedrals conjoined by one wall.  It is truly beautiful.

We stopped along the way at a local producer of Iberian ham.  The key to this ham is their feed.  The best ham comes from pigs that are fed only acorns (12kg a day) in the last 12 weeks of life.  Lesser expensive ham is made with 50% acorn and grains.  Nonetheless both are very tasty.
