Day C2: Successful Bag Pickup
I started the day catching up on review from all the positive experiences in Dubai. Now I wish I never left. For what purpose really? Things were so comfortable, safe, and fun back there and I truly fit in. But let's just say you were to base yourself in one of these Gulf countries. You're within a 2-3 hour flight radius of all sorts of unique tour destinations. You could do a different tour every time. Spin the wheel, get that bike on a plane, and go for it. You do a tour just long enough to stretch your comfort zone and then you're back to your base making cash and ready to branch out again.
Obviously not wanting to trust another taxi driver, I set off on foot to the airport one last time to try and reclaim my bag. This time I had the sense to bring along a boarding pass with luggage tag details. It worked like a charm! With just a few questions, the people at lost and found asked for my passport, wrote me a security clearance, then I was ushered through this secret door. They had my bag right away and it was taken back after some simple paperwork.
If you're curious about what happens if you leave luggage unclaimed at the belt, they wrap it in plastic with a sticker saying 'unaccompanied baggage'. It is quite a big deal for obvious reasons. I'm sure it goes through all kinds of security checks before.
I then walked back to the hotel, assembled everything and rode the bike off to the Marriot. This trip was finally beginning but I decided to cut short the time spent in Yerevan and just do simple stuff. One bar tour tonight, the next day a visit at the Genocide Museum and after that, bounce. I was already spending an unfathomable amount of money here.
