Day 98: Lansing to Pinckney Recreation Area

American Chestnut tree at Fenner Nature Center. These used to be one of the more widespread trees in the eastern US but a blight wiped most of them out starting in the late 1800s. There are a number of isolated populations, including this one in Lansing. Because of the presence of the blight fungus, they won’t grow to anywhere near the size of the trees from before the blight was introduced
