Day 9 - La Junta to Puyuhuapi
Happy birthday David day !
I’m honoured to be sharing his birthday on the ride.
Today at breakfast I had our hostess bring a piece of cake with candles. We couldn’t fit more than 60 so 2 had to do. Geeze all these years thought David was only 50.

Alejandro our friend we met will cycle with us for a while. I cannot be more happy to have a translator with us. There is only so much you can do with Google Translate. I did have to do that to order David’s birthday cake ! It worked great swapping the phone back and forth to our hostess. However Alejandro does a great job translating the menu options when we’re in a restaurant. Since he is originally from Argentina getting great history lessons on South America too

Today was spectacular weather for riding not hot. Not cold a bit of a breeze. The elevation wasn’t too bad. Nice rolling up and down hills. Just like yesterday most of the pretty scenery was behind us, you had to look over your shoulder and catch some beautiful scenery.

We arrived in Puyuhuapi mid afternoon. This gave us time to have a quick Cappachino a piece of birthday cake and change to find a great hostel. we stated the same hostel that David stayed at four years ago and by some fluke chance they recognized him.
We did a nice walk around town checking out restaurants and just the scenery by the lake. There’s a huge lake that offers kayaking canoeing and great water sports. We had to find a special restaurant for David’s birthday dinner.
As usual, there were tons of dogs running around their muzzles buried into the tops of garbage cans looking for scrap food.
We had a great dinner at a restaurant overlooking the water. We had great conversation, talking about boats sailing, Cycling and solving all the worlds problems over dinner.
As usual, our evening ended by going to the local supermarket to get groceries for the next few days . There is only so much you can pack on a bicycle at once.
I’ve commented before this journal for tips and for me to make notes on where I’ve been and done. We are over a week of riding and I couldn’t remember what night we stayed where without this.
Cycle bkaze is a great website to use to make notes, journal , blog whatever you want to call it, your trip. Then other people that are looking for similar trips, can read yours and get some hints. You can also use apps like Day One, which I think is only for the iPhone, which is great for doing journaling, and also sharing your stories , so a real tip is figure out pen and paper or smart phone something to link your photos to where you’ve been so in years to come, you can look back and smile and remember of all the great places that you seen. Now maybe the ones of you that are really young have a great memory but when you get to my old age, you need all the help you can get to remember the good times.
These postings may seem erratic, jumping from topic to topic, and I’ve been called squirrel by many people, including David. It’s just the way I am.
I’m getting a bit better at basic Spanish, however should have done online dualingo.
