Day 1 - start the ride

Day 1 .. Started from Puerto Montt. Great weather sunny and warm, need to add some sunscreen, surprised how quickly it gets you tanned.
Actually typing this in my tent listening to the cows moo. So cool camping, well we will leave that final judgement to the morning.
To all you road cyclists, riding a touring bike with almost 50 pounds of gear is a whole new ball game. The hills seem longer and steeper.
The views along the pacific are stunning as we cycled south and you see the mountain's on the other side covered in snow.
It obvious they cater to cyclists and hikers tons of camping sites and cabanas along the way. The nice thing about camping as I just experienced was meeting people from all over the world. We met 4 nice young people from Barcelona.
There was a nice ferry ride about 10km before we stopped to camp. We met 6 guys from Brazil on BMW’s.
bikers are all great people to chat with
The people on street all say Ola .. greet you with a smile .. so nice
Tips
Pack light ! The more you pack the tougher the hills are.
Komoot is great for elevation changes. Download the route then put your phone in airplane mode. You will save your battery and of course still have a fully charged USB charger, when apps are open all the time they suck battery life
Like the song .. everybody’s free .. don’t forget the sunscreen. Add to that water !
Learn Spanish ! Or make sure you get a SIM card to use Google translate … majority of people and I mean majority speak NO English!
Dress in bright colours ! Cars can see you easily I ended up wearing a bright yellow vest
