The List - Canberra to Adelaide Sitting On a Thorn - CycleBlaze

December 20, 2017

The List

On the International Spectrum of Expeditioness, this tour sits toward the easier end. The first week or so will be on hilly back roads from Canberra with a few small settlements and towns. It's fairly remote in parts. A tent, cooking gear and food carry will be needed for this section.

Further on, there are many towns along the Murray Valley, so there is potential to use cabins, pubs and bought meals but we will try to camp wherever it's feasible. Night temperatures will be warm to hot, so only a light sleeping bag is needed.

In other words, I will be packing to be self sufficient in accommodation and cooking, even though I won't need all the gear all the time. Mosquitoes can be a problem in summer in Australian riverine environments. My Mont bivvy has mesh.

I won't carry much in the way of tools or spares. My bike is a good touring model with a proven record of durability, and I am having it fully serviced with new cables, brake pads and tyres before departure.
