Second Ride of 2025
February 25, 2025: It's been a very slow start this year for cycling, partially due to the cold temperatures and much more snow than in recent years, but mostly due to my inability to manage my workload.
I've said it before, but this time I really mean it: I am absolutely not going to take on any contract software development work outside of my primary business in the future.
It was sunny and unseasonably warm today, and I rode out on the Fargo. I'm woefully out of shape at this point, and my legs felt dead. Still it was a nice day. Felt like Spring had arrived early.
I rode past all the ugly new solar panel projects in the Robards area, and stopped at Sugg's store for a Snickers bar. The store was full of itinerant solar panel workers waiting for Matt Suggs to make their sandwiches.

I rode on to Sebree. There wasn't anything new to see, but I stopped to take a few photos anyway.
I arrived in Sebree for the obligatory photo of the "Greetings from Webco" mural. ("Webco" is short for "Webster County".)
A local lady asked where I was from, and seemed slightly disappointed that I was only from Henderson, 20-something miles away. Sebree is on the TransAmerica Trail, and people in town are accustomed to seeing cyclists from exotic lands riding through town.
I had a grilled cheese sandwich and fries at the Dairy Bar, then headed home into a headwind out of the northwest.

I took a shortcut on a gravel road, and regretted it almost immediately: It was very soft from the recent rain and snow.
I arrived home and felt tired but otherwise alright, but I have a long way to go to get back in cycling shape, much less touring shape.
