To Widleshauser

For a first day it went well

We woke early with the  knowledge that we really couldnt leave until 9.30 as the first thing we needed to do was to go back to the bike shop to fix the problem with the lock and it didn’t open till 10am  With a route in the phone this was easy and we found we had just been trying to open it the wrong way!

Back to our start and at 11am we were off.  We are using Komoot to navigate and we had a fantastic route - not one off which was really amazing . The weather was great too, overcast, no rain and moderate temperatures. We were a bit disappointed as we didn’t come across a single coffee stop. What really amazed us was how long it took us to get out of Urban Areas, I hadn’t realised how heavily populated it is around Bremen, it was about 20km before we were in the country side

We found a seat to have our brochen  and cheese and it is there that we realised the disaster of the day.  I had shown you yesterday how pleased I was that I could attach my crutch to my rear rack so I could grab it easily. I stopped for lunch and I turned to retrieve it and it wasn’t there.  This was a folding crutch specially adapted by our son Peter which with it in one hand and a stick in the other I really walk quite well.  I still have the stick and will just have to get another and hope it works.  No chance of any pharmacies being open till Monday to try and get one

Eventually we were out in the country with lots of rape seed and wheat ready to harvest and corn just coming into flower. By this time there was a fairly brisk head wind so we were pleased to reach this excellent hotel on the edge of Wildeshausen. We are tired but pleased with how it has gone

Tricia GrahamTo Jane WalaYes a bugger. Meet a lady while having coffee this morning I asked her about disability shops and she told me about a place. Close to US Open at 8am and its web site says it sells artificial legs so hopefully crutches!! 😊😊 all is going very well with Ken trying to keep positive in torrential rain
