What We Thought of the Inn Radweg
We had twisted our route all around to include Innsbruck and all of the Inn Radweg. We did that because we just generally expected something this into the mountains, this near to Salzburg and to Passau to be pretty special. The reality turned out to be "just ok". The Inn valley does not have the really beautiful surrounding of meadow and mountain that the Enns, for example, has. And the upper Inn has quite a bit of industry as well.
The markings for the radweg were rather erratic, and the signs used switched around. The path surface was often loose gravel. Services, and in particular camping were not terribly plentiful, and there was not the constant stream of beautiful towns, such as are found on the Mosel.
Still, the Inn is very central, and is key if you are really heading for something like the Salzach. We would not go for it again, though, as any sort of final destination. We also did not find enough to really interest kids on this route.
Inn Pros
Central location, between Bavaria and the Saltkammergut
Not too many on road sections
Not hilly
Innsbruck and especially Passau - interesting cities
Inn Cons
Lots of gravel surface
Erratic signage - missing signs
Erratic signage - which sign to follow switches around without notice
Innsbruck not as beautiful as some other cities in the region
