Day 30: L'Agulhas to Hermanus
We made it...that's how I felt at the end of the third 100+ day in a row.
We set out late from the hostel. Cath was a bit tired and lethargic, Stevo had been the steam roller through the wind the day before so wasn't bouncing with his usual energy. We decided on a short day. It was evident today we would loose Connor. He had done his best to slow down and wait for us but he was in a rush and push to Hermanus.
What we did have on our side though, was the wind. Well it was behind at least. We were pushed along the dirt road toward Elim, a picturesque German Movavian missionary town with multiple cottages and thatched roofs. The landscape was not too variable but we were surprised by an ostrich sitting on the road, a few storks in the wetlands and passed yet another snake (nice thick black one today).

There didn't seem like too many appropriate (read "affordable") accommodation options in Gansbaai (surprisingly we found out it's pronounced something like 'Hansbai' with a guttural H: Afrikaans is not a language for me).
In a rash move we decided at 4:30pm to push another 43km to Hamanus. Doesn't sound like much, but that was half the days distance again, and we really should have stopped then. The wind had helped us most of the day, Cath was banking on its help again. But we turned north and the wonderful westerly was now pushing us from the side. And then there was a hill (and some nasty roadworks)! Can you believe it? Cath couldn't! We stopped and discussed turning around. And decided to go on, dodging baboons (well, not at all, but there were lots of signs indicating we might have to), and admiring beautiful hills to the right as we rolled around the bay into Hermanus in a couple of hours.
