Day 29: To the South
Swellendam to L'Agulhas
We were up early, as we needed to be out of the council campground before the office opened at 8am. What kind of bureaucracy would make a system that requires campers (i.e. tourists) pay with a bank transfer?
We rode on the N2 for about 10km before our turn off to Bredasdorp. The shoulder was wide, the road was smooth and Stevo and I hit somewhere around 1000km for the trip. I say somewhere as my bike computer is different to Stevo's computer, which is different to the Strava recording. Worth a photo anyway.

The road to Bredasdorp was one of those straight, upsy-downsy, dippy, roller-coastery type roads. We would wizz down a short downhill, to grind to a trudge up a short hill, to roll down the next one...and on it went. It seems to be harvest season for the wheat so our theory that we were heading to a backwater holiday town on a nice quiet road was dashed with multiple semitrailers trundling past.
Lunch was had in Bredasdorp while we waited for the heat of the day to pass, and the southerly to build. Four pizzas (Connor can eat!) and another milkshake fueled us for the last push into the wind to L'Agulhas: the southern-most point in Africa.
We arrived pretty late in the day, but had enough time for an obligatory photo shoot and a fish dinner at a fancy restaurant (the only place that was open!)

We got a sunset photo at the point, then had to return a few kilometers up the road to Struisbaai to find a reasonable place to camp. The municipal camp ground was more expensive per person than a room in the -rather nice - backpackers. That seems odd.
Today's ride: 120 km (75 miles)
Total: 1,092 km (678 miles)
