Worth am Main to Wertheim

This friendly neighbour at the Worth campsite offered us fresh coffee (as well as firewood for a campfire the previous night). He and his wife live nearby and stay at this campground for the summer in their caravan.

Crossing the Main River with vineyards along the hillside.

Egyptian geese seem to be increasing along the rivers. This man took time out from feeding the geese to take a call. They waited for him!

While sitting at our campsite at Worth, we watched this man driving his tractor pulling this converted camping trailer. We caught up with him at a campsite further along the river.

The tractor and trailer have been beautifully restored.

Grossheubach (spelling?) is a pretty village where we found ourselves exploring its side streets and enjoying lunch from the local metzgerei.

We can relate to people like us who walk with purpose to a bakery.

A lovely copper wine making device above the door shows what is inside.

We love getting lunch from a local Metzgerei - reasonably priced, the buns and salad are fresh and the meat has been freshly roasted. This shop is the "hot spot" in town as the line up stretched outside onto the street.

We enjoyed visiting Miltenberg last year - and this bridge in to town is a pleasant reminder....and the statue has a fresh coat of paint.

Faust brewery in Miltenberg - farmer's truck line up to get the mash for their farms. It creates a distinctive, aroma to the street.

Gutram's gallery is a unique sight on the cobbled streets of Miltenberg.

Fellow cyclists enjoying Miltenberg - could this be a photo shoot?

This little girl was loving her ice cream - she finally gave up on the spoon and dove in.

We love these ornate signs advertising a business.

When we arrived at the campground, we went swimming at the neighbouring pool to escape the humidity. It was 38 degrees Celcius. We're packing up to leave and we have survived our first thunder storm of the trip - and boy, did it rain hard.

Camping at Wertheim - the cyclist's area was empty and we enjoyed the solitude.

We were grateful to have a campground at Wertheim, but Azur campgrounds are quite expensive and offer facilities more than we need.

The confluence of the Main and Tauber rivers. The Tauber is fairly large here - but we can see that it is not a shipping route like the Main.

Wertheim's landmark castle on the hill.

Approaching Wertheim on the bike route. Our first glimpse of the Tauber.

Kaffee und kuchen in Wertheim - and we both agree that this was the best pastry of our trip so far this year.

Wertheim, a bustling city on Saturday with many visitors and a market.

Camping Forelle. We were grateful to use the owner's carport to get out of the rain and eat our breakfast. We're not sure what we did to offend her. We had asked her for permission and she seemed happy for us to use it. However, as soon as we finished, she roped off the area and made up a sign, "Privat" - oops, I guess my German skills are not as good as I thought.

Heavy rain throughout the night and the following day at Camp Forelle. The birds and squirrels entertained us.

We were entertained by this red squirrel while we ate breakfast. He arrived at "his" feeder only to find peanuts. This didn't impress him, so he left!

The wily squirrel returned immediately after the lady added whole walnuts to the feeder. This is what he wanted!

Janine's Bike Friday has seen a lot of the world .... and her many stickers tell a story.

Janine from Switzerland was the only other cycle tourist at the campground. We enjoyed talking to her and hearing about her travels.

Heading off in the rain. Janine has cycled on her own through much of Europe and in the United States.

A rainy day at Camp Forelle - a dextrous camper delivering food with her umbrella on her bike.
