To Old Sawmill Station RV Park
It's a cold night, the thermometer on Patrick's bike reads -2C. The good news is there are no clouds, but because our campground is in a narrow canyon, it will be a while before the sun will reach us.
We fix coffee and have a muffin, planning to eat a bigger breakfast in Challis about 15 miles away. With the sunlight the ride along the Salmon River is beautiful: the fall colors, blue sky and some snow covered peaks on the horizon.
We reach Challis at about 10am just in time for breakfast.
On our way out of town we stop at a grocery store to stock up and again at the Yankee Fork Visitor Center to get some information. There are many hot springs between here and Stanley, but sadly none have camping. We decide to go to a commercial RV Park about 25miles further so we can shower and do our laundry.
It's cold and the wind is blowing. The forecast isn't good, unsettled weather, chances for rain and snow the next couple of days. We don't feel like cooking, so we eat a hamburger with potato salad and an Alaskan Amber in the store. A guy tells Patrick about the Molybdenum mine up in the mountains here. Most permanent residents of the RV Park work in the open pit mine. A woman is concerned about us camping out tonight. She offers us a box trailer to sleep in. We're fine as long as it is dry cold.
