Rest Day Parit Buntar, David's Place: Sightseeing

David has to go to work for a while this morning. He works for the Malaysian Power Company. By about lunchtime he comes home ready to show us around. We are not quite sure how to take his hospitality yet. His family is wonderful, his wife and daughter serve us food three times a day, all authentic Indian dishes, just like they eat. We had rice and curry for breakfast this morning.

We pick up some box dinners and head out for a sauna David knows about. Out in the country a hampong (small village), an Indian woman runs a small business with coconut shell fired steam rooms. Special herbs are added to the steam and it is hot! We take several sessions drinking ginger tea in between.

In the evening, we take a bike ride towards the ocean. We ride on quite country roads, see rice fields, mangrove swamps along the coast, fish farms, monkeys, iguana and the sun setting in the ocean. The last five km, we ride back in the dark. Another great Indian meal awaits at home. We are also free to use the internet.

(Edit update: Munusamy Sinnappan aka David is on Facebook Bicycle touring Malaysia)

The advantage of time passing after this journal, an update. David visited us in Boise.

2010, David flew to Portland to do a bike ride around USA. We drove (8 hours) to Portland to pick him up to start his ride from Boise.
