Rest Day Luang Prabang: meeting other cyclists
If the quandary about China/Tibet is not enough, we've been also weighing our options for going to the Plain of Jars. We almost left on a tour for there (and back), three days for $70, but another two participants cancelled and the tour price went up above what we are willing to pay. Besides the money factor we are also wondering if we really want to see it...
We found another travel agent running a tour there at $95, that's way more than we are willing to pay. So it seems we are not going. We have breakfast again at Ja Ma bakery, sharing an "Egg McMuffin" and muesli with fruit and yogurt. As we leave we see two touring bikes, we ask around who these bikes belong to and find the two Belgian girls from Leuren. We decide to meet for tea at a bookstore later this afternoon. A man overheard our conversation with the Belgians and shows us a newspaper article about a travel warning from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang. Oh well.
The Belgians give us some good info on the route they took from Pakbeng up to Udongaia China, we are considering doing the same. Another cyclist pops in, Tim is an Australian guy, traveling with his wife. We will meet them tonight for dinner together with Cristoffe, a French cyclist we met a couple of days ago on the street. They are all headed South now, but eventually they will, just like us, go into China and Tibet. Tim and Stephanie will head out tomorrow for Kiou Ka Cham, Cristoffe the day after.
We have a nice meal at the restaurant, the same place we ate with Uschi on our first night in town.
