Rest Day in Lhasa: Nepal Consulate
Our job today is to get our passports submitted for a Nepal Visa.
We could possibly get one at the border, but we prefer to pick one up here, just in case the "rules" change while we ride to the border. We take a taxi for a float rate of 10 yuan and get there at opening time of 1000. Already a long line of Chinese has formed. The system seems very inefficient, it takes over an hour for us to advance, submit the form, passport photos that we've carried and passport.
Tomorrow is a Holiday, so we need to wait until the end of the week. We share a taxi ride back to the Potala with two Americans. There is a viewpoint on a small hill for the "typical" Potala picture. It's closed though, workers are installing new granite cladding on the stairway. When they notice us seeking a way in, they open the gate for us so we can get our pictures.
We walk around the Potala Kora again. We get a ride back to the Yak Hotel and have a late lunch in the Ourya restaurant. The club sandwich so big, we take home half for tomorrow's lunch.
