Rest Day Hoi An: My Son tour
At 5 am we are picked up for an early morning tour to the ruins at My Son.
It's an hour drive to the site, we have breakfast and enter the site right when it opens at 6:30am. The ruins are not nearly as impressive as what we saw in Cambodia, but we agree not to compare, "this isn't better than that, only different". The atmosphere is neat though, with forested hills, fog between the trees and ancient remains of temples and shrines. The site suffered a lot of damage during the "American War." Bomb craters are visible all around. We return to Hoi An by 10am, rest awhile and then head into town. There are many interesting sights in the old town, around the market and riverside.
We buy a very nice ebony carving of a buddha figure, it must weigh about 3 kilos though...Rachel goes shopping for t-shirts, she buys for her mother. We'll try to mail a package home tomorrow. Our hotel helped us get a two week visa extension for $18USD each, this takes some of the pressure off us to reach Laos before the 10th.
Patrick cleaned the bikes again this morning, we are ready to move on to Da Nang tomorrow.
