Oh my a Rest Day in Georgetown: as if we needed a rest day
We start the day walking around the old part of Georgetown, taking pictures of the many Chinese shops and houses in a beautiful morning light. When we get hungry we make our way through a busy morning market to a Traveler's Cafe for muesli, yogurt, some eggs, a (hotdog?) sausage and baked beans (an English breakfast?). We then find a bike shop recommended by David but it is still closed, next stop, the post office to mail postcards and four more picture DVD's to Nathan.
We go to the travel agency to pick up our passports. David's brother has forgotten!
Embarrassed he jumps on his scooter to go to the Thai consulate while we go and check out Fort Cornwallis, the first British settlement on the island. One canon bears the Dutch VOC logo. Later back to pick-up our passports, we return to the bike store for a shifter cable and some cable housing. Rachel's rear derailleur hangs up sometimes. Patrick thinks it might be due to too tight a curve at the rear fork. One of these days, Patrick will try to fix it.
We walk back to the Comtar mall where we eat some Thai dish, mango with shredded vegetables and seafood, Rachel has some nice BBQ chicken. We go to the cinema and a movie is just starting, "The Departed". A pretty good movie and we figure out the title is because everyone starring in it dies.
We hurry back to the hotel just as the daily thunderstorm breaks. Later, often it gets dry, so we head for little India for Tandoori Chicken and naan, so very good! Some ice cream and an internet Cafe to check mail and rearrange our photos on the picassa website. (Addendum: when we wrote this journal on paper, we considered our "blog" to be the captions on the pictures uploaded to picassa. This website was purchased by google and no longer exists.)
