Impressions of Laos
1. Woven bamboo and wooden huts on tall stilts
2. Lots of children, mostly dressed; the little ones dressed with tops and not bottoms; naked boys washing in the river or at town water pumps
3. Patrick being chased by one naked little boy who was bathing when he spotted Patrick and started running after him
4. Good Baguettes but heavier than Vietnam's
5. Scandinavian bakery in Vientiane and Luang Prabang, their lunch special with assorted rolls/buns, meat and cheese
6. Seeing Uschi walk by while in JoMa Bakery (Last saw Uschi in Nga Trang boat trip in Vietnam)
7. Enthusiastic children waving and shouting Saibadee, morphed into Saibadee-bye
8. Parents holding their children and having the children wave/helping them wave
9. Laos PDR (Peoples Democratic Republic) or also "Please Don't Rush"
10. Instant feeling of not rushing, quiet people, less traffic after crossing border, less honking
11. 9.6 Kip = 1 USD Coke cost 5000kip
12. No honking, No honking, No honking
13. TV restaurants in Vang Vieng where backpackers lounge on pillows at low tables (we just get hotels with TV)
14. Pho soup = noodle soup
15. Women wear sarongs
16. Satellite dishes by the huts
18. Going from humid heat of Vientiane to foggy mornings in Na Kien
19. Mekong River-low water and wide river bed in Vientiane; Boat ride Luang Prabang to Pak Beng with pancake sheets of limestone/shale along the banks
20. "Baby" monks- most monks seen are young boys
21. History of most bombed countries; hills are slashed/burned; because of the season brown rice fields
22. Woven baskets for holding/carrying rice
23. Villages along ridges; hazy mountain views
24. Burning trash along the side of the road
25. Women weaving at looms under the stilted house spinning cotton to thread
26. Beer Lao
27. Sunrise/sunset: the sun is an orange ball
