Rachael’s Hike in Pezenas

Today we thought we’d be hanging out in the great apartment we are staying in doing more trip planning and watching Netflix.  But fortunately, the weather prediction from yesterday of thunderstorms, rain and wind all day changed to thunderstorms later in the afternoon. Yippee!  I grabbed the opportunity to take a hike while Scott took a bicycle ride.  It turned out to be a wonderful hike and I was glad to have a break from the saddle.

Looking up at Castelnaud-de-Guers from trail below before climbing up into the town.

Keith AdamsVisually at least, that scrub looks a lot like central and eastern Oregon. I don't expect that it's actually the same biome, though.

Scott AndersonTo Keith AdamsThe vegetation isn’t right, but the terrain has some similarities. It’s largely volcanic here.

The following photos were taken on the beautiful hiking trail starting just after leaving Castelnaud-de-Guers.  This is one of the most colorful trails I’ve ever hiked on.  The colorful rock and heather was amazing!

Keith AdamsExcept for the periodic intrusion of grape vines that area really does have a look similar to the western U.S., doesn't it?

Scott AndersonTo Keith AdamsIt’s the red volcanic soil contrasting against the green. It could be somewhere near Sisters, Oregon.
