Der Radreise Blog macht nun eine kurze Pause, von wegen wenig Radreise. Fahre am 25. Januar mit dem Zug nach Bangkok und am 26. Geht der Flieger nach Siem Reap, wo ich bis zum 4. Februar bleiben werde- dann wiederum nach Bangkok zurück und die weitere Radlplanung ist noch ungewiss, vermutlich von Ban Krut südlicher Richtung. Blogeinträge wird es natürlich weiterhin geben, allerdings mehr local cycling als bicycle travels.
Ab 5. Februar geht es wieder los.
For the upcoming two weeks this will become less a cycling travel journal but an "I am here with my bicycle" travel blog.
I will take a train to Bangkok jan, 25, fly to Siem Reap next day, will cycle the temples of Angkor and fly back to Bangkok feb, 4.
I have only limited plans for the weeks after, probably I will move to Ban Krut and cycle into southern Thailand.

In einem der noch verbliebenen Holzhäusern findet sich ein nettes Vintage Bike Kaffeehaus, dessen Sitzgelegenheiten allerdings eine Qual sind.------------ In one of them there is a fashionable "vintage bike coffee house" located- great coffee, great people, great bicycles, poor seating.

Am Ao Manao Strand. Daheim trink ich so gut wie niemals Cola, hierorts passt es gut zum Klima und kost fast nix. Mehr als ein Liter zuzüglich eines Kübels Eis in etwa 1,50 Euro .-----------Had Ao manao Beach- Lemon Bay Beach. I rarely drink Coca Cola at home, but here it goes well with the climate and it is awfully cheap. 1,2 litres and a huge bucket of ice for only $ 1,70!
Farblich eine Augenweide, geschmacklich leider eine Niederlage. Die Muscheln fade, das Gemüse in süsser Oystersauce ertränkt. Schade!-----------What a colourful dinner! Unfortunately tastewise it was disappointing. Slimy, tasteless mussels and vegetables in extremely sweet and salty oyster sauce
Das Gejammer, es gäbe in Thailand keinen g'scheiten Kaffee, entbehrt mittlerweile jeder Grundlage. Ein Espresso, der jedem italienischen Bahnhofsausschank zur Ehre gereichte. ------------ The art of brewing coffee has reached Thailand. This is an espresso you cannot be served any better in a bar at an Italian train station.
Die gesellschaftliche Akzeptanz von Radwegen ist derweil noch gering und sie werden häufig als solche weder wahrgenommen noch ist mit Rücksichtnahme zu rechnen. War bei uns in Wien vor Zeiten auch nicht anders. Wenn hoffentlich irgendwann das Radfahren in der Mitte der Gesellschaft angekommen ist, wird sich das vermutlich ändern.--------- Bike lanes are hardly respected and used for many strange purpose like having a picnic, setting up a foodstall, parking your vehicle. Same as in my country fifteen years ago- it takes time until cycling becomes accepted.
Im SriKrung Hotel steige ich immer wieder gerne ab, wenn ich mit dem Hauptbahnhof Bangkoks zu tun habe. Sein 60-Jahre Ambiente, der harsche Charme des Personals und die legendäre Härte der Betten sind mir stets ein Vergnügen. Ein enormes Plus des Hotels sind abgesehen von der Bahnhofsaussicht die Balkone.-------- My favorite hotel when I need to stay close to the train station. Classic 60th style and the rough charm of the personnal and the hard beds are legendary.
Seit der kürzlich vorgenommen dezenten Renovierung (hauptsächlich wurde der Pinsel geschwungen) ist die Athmosphäre eine deutlich lichtere.--------- After the hotel did undergo a descreet renovation last year ( primarily a paint job), the facade and the rooms give a much more friendly impression.
Das mit den Postämtern (mittlerweile dürfte ich landesweit mehr als 150 davon abgelichtet haben) hat sich in den letzten Jahren ein wenig beruhigt. Wird auch immer schwerer, neue wie dieses zu entdecken.---------- The times of collecting Thai post offices are gone. Mainly because there are no new ones to discover. I was very delighted when I spotted this one in a small Soi bettween Chinatown and thetrain station.
