I already mentioned I am not too enthusiastic about islands- especially those undeveloped, small and remote ones.  Nothing to do, nothing to see, trapped in the resort, mediocre but expensive food, reggae music all day and backpackers galore.  
Possibly I would have enjoyed all that when I was in my twenties, but in those years my financial situation only got me to Greece.  
I had in my mind to go to Koh Samui- checking out cyclists journals about the situation there and the extremely rude road manners made me forget about it.
So it has to be Koh Phayam for another visit. There are two beaches- Long Beach, where the sea is shallow and the backpackers hang around or Buffalo Beach, a much more pretty and party free zone. In the last five years since my first visit hardly anything has changed- some of the resorts improved the bungalows but there are no new ones, there is electricity most of the day and the prices are higher. And there are by far more visitors. 
I get a big bungalow in my favorite place- Marina Resort- but just for one night. Tomorrow I have to move and the day after there will be bamboo bungalow available. To find accommodation for tomorrow proves to be extremely difficult- full, full, full. I was ready to give up when I came upon a restaurant on the road high above the beach advertising “Jansom 2 Bungalows- ask here”. With little hope I ask. Surprise, they have a bungalow close to the beach for only 300,- Baht. I accept with having a look at it- for one night it will be okay.
So lets see, what tomorrow has to offer. Will there be a bathroom, a toilet, electricity, cockroaches, rats.........?   

An und fuer sich bin ich ja nicht bekannt als der grosse Inselfreund- im Besonderen, wenn diese von der ueberschaubar kleinen Sorte sind. Man ist an einem Strand quasi einbetoniert, das Essen neigt dazu, wenig inspiriert und wie alles andere vergleichsweise teuer zu sein. Von groesseren Inseln wie Koh Samui, wo man auch ein wenig mit dem Fahrrad unterwegs sein kann, wurde ich mehrfach gewarnt, da der Verkehr absolut rueckssichtslos sein soll und man sich als Radler gluecklich schaetzen kann, ohne groebere Blessuren davonzukommen.
Koh Phayam war da bislang eine erfreuliche Ausnahme. Aufgrund der nur sporadisch vorhandenen Stromversorgung und der nur kurzen Saison ( Ende Dezember bis Mitte Maerz) ist die Insel von den Tourismusinvestoren eher links liegen gelassen worden. 
Das ist natuerlich nicht geheim geblieben (wieso koennen die depperten Blogger eigentlich um keinen Preis die Gosch’n halten?) und der Zustrom an Besuchern waechst und waechst.
11h30 im geschaetzten Marina Resort: oops, grosser Bungalow nur fuer heute Nacht, morgen komplett ausgebucht, uebermorgen Bamboo Bungalow available. Preise sind deutlich gestiegen, aber jetzt hat es auch 18h Strom pro Tag und neue Durchlauferhitzer wurden angeschafft.
Ist eh ok, such ich mir fuer morgen eben eine Notloesung in der Naehe. Geh ich den Strand entlang und klappere Resort um Resort ab, doch wehe, wehe- alles voll. Das anstehende chinesische Neujahr duerfte daran nicht vollkommen unschuldig sein. Die Angebote der einschlaegigen Plattformen sind jenseitig- grindige Verschlaege im Nirgendwo, vor deren Besucher dringend abgeraten wird.
Wie ich des spaeteren Nachmittags auf Shoppingtour die Hauptstrasse- eher ein Plattenweg- hoch ueber dem Strand entlangspaziere, faellt mir ein Schild: “Jonsam 2 Bungalows, ask in Restaurant”, ins Auge. Aske ich wenig hoffnungsfroh halt einmal, und oh unerwartetes Wunder, es ist was frei, irgendwo unten am Strand- 300,- Baht. Ueberleg ich nicht lang und schlage ung’schaut zu. Um den Preis kann eigentlich nichts verhackt sein, eine Nacht im moeglichen Grind halt ich schon aus.
Bin schon gespannt, was mich morgen erwartet.
