The barn at Ter Doest Abbey was built in the 13 th century.

This church in Lisseweg is also from the 13 th century. There is a myth that signal fires were lit on the tower. Wikipedia explains that it would have most certainly done great damage as most roofs in the town was constructed from straw. (Credit for this photo to Wikipedia)

In 1987 a ferry departed from Zeebrugge harbour with it's doors open and promptly capsized.

On the left is the Schipdonk canal. It carried water that was polluted by the textile industry to the North sea and got nicknamed the stinker.On the right is the Leopold Canal, which drains marchlands. So it got the nickname the 'blinker'.
