To Sens

A hard but successful first day

Last night we ate a salad in our room then spent a somewhat anxious night deciding what route for today. Despite the inevitable hills involved and probably a longer distance we decided  to pick our way through the small villages that had been suggested to us yesterday.

This was the list of villages we needed to navigate through

With great trepidation off we started at 8am.  I had Komoot set on cycle touring  - this however was a major error and we were soon on nearly impassable goat tracks going steeply up hill.  With my ebike on Turbo I could barely  make it and you could well imagine what the situation was for poor Ken on a regular bike. We would never make it to Sens, there must be a better way.  I changed the setting to road cycling.  It was like magic the hills of course continued but the road itself was wonderful and we had little traffic the whole way

It’s good to find a seat for a rest

We went through many lovely small stone villages but apart from one they had no services. As we noted last year many PMUs and cafes have closed down

We actually found a coffee stop with 15km to go

After this there was only one really challenging hill but Ken felt his legs had turned to jelly

Only 14km to go a big relief for Ken

It felt great to negotiate the many road works of Sens and  arrive at the beautiful main square with its market and cathedral. We stopped and had a reviving pizza and watched the world go by. It tasted good

Now for our last push to the Ibis Hotel which is about 3k out of town.  I always find Ibis Hotels, although never exciting, very comforting though a bit of a problem with this one as they had lost our booking. All is well however, we have a room now as do our bikes and we are ready to do it all tomorrow though this time the route is flat and the distance a bit shorter

Today's ride: 52 km (32 miles)
Total: 102 km (63 miles)
