To Rochemaure

On our own again

Today was a very short day for us and we couldnt check in till 4 so there was a lot of delay starting.  The Walas had to get to Montelimar by 1pm to catch their train and Mark had a work meeting till around 10.  We waited until that was done then we all left.  They made sure we were safely over the bridge, we said our goodbyes and then they set off at high speed - they had rather further to go that us.  Ken went into the supermarket and got us bread and cheese for lunch then off we went too at a much slower speed. The wind today was much more moderate but still in a helpful direction.  The first little village we came to was the charming village of Baix  so we had a bit of a poke around

Today the route was all on the right side of the river and again full of bountiful fruit.  However we were led around an enormous Nuclear Power Station.  This interestingly had a large number of solar panels around it. These were used as shelters in a massive car park - something we had first seen in Spain.  It meant today that we had seen solar power, nuclear power, hydroelectric and wind turbines  The only sort of power generation we had not seen was from hydrocarbons, surely this is encouraging

We were stopping at about every rest area we came to to fill in time and just before our destination found a picnic place to see how long we could make a lunch of bread and cheese last.  Then a message came through from Jane to say they had got to the station and becoming acquainted with the joys of travelling on trains with bikes

It was 1pm when we arrived at the hotel but there was a comfortable place to sit in the shade and wait and we could get water and beer. The hotel seems great except for the fact that the restaurant is closed because it is Monday and the other one in town is taking 2 weeks holiday!  Ken has found a boulangerie

Up high Ken started to walk up but it was too steep

In the meantime the Walas had arrived in Lyon and were returning their bikes at the same time as we checked into the hotel

Scott AndersonYou stayed in Rochemaure! We biked past it on our way north up the Rhone two years ago and were amazed by it. We’d have loved to stay there and will do so if we’re ever back this way.

Tricia GrahamTo Scott AndersonIt’s a fantastic place and the Hotel medieval ( apart from closed restaurant on Monday) is really great. So glad we stopped had ridden through it before but not stopped. We need to do age appropriate distances!
