To Mornas - Keeping up with Rudolf - CycleBlaze

To Mornas

A day free of dramas

Getting down from the top town to the bridge was easy once we went the right way.  The bridge was too bad though rather steep so Ken walked it while I got into Turbo and went as fast as I could.  Once over it we were almost immediately put on to small roads and were to follow them all day.  The country was agricultural and we saw field grown tomatoes, carrots, maize, lots of sunflowers, soy beans, lavender, apples, pears, apricots, lucern, grapes, celery and potatoes.  There were no small towns and the buildings were all stone farm buildings.  It was a lovely route until the last few kilometres whim we were beside a busy noisy motorway

Lots of signs of irrigation but it has been so wet this season they wont have been using it

Steve Miller/GrampiesWe have often seen this. Perhaps it is to prevent birds from nibbling the fruit?

Tricia GrahamTo Steve Miller/GrampiesDon’t think it is for birds. Because they don’t even net their grapes. Maybe it is to stop sun damage seemed to be only on apples

Then we were across the motorway and were soon into the medieval town of Mornas.  The town is under a cliff and was clearly an important defensive position in the past - you can walk up to the defences if you have the energy.  The town itself is a collection of very old stone buildings.  Because of our very easy ride we were extremely early so found a place under a lovely spreading plane tree and first had coffee and then lunch

Our hotel is Le Manoir, it is in the old manoir house of the town and with its thick stone walls very cool on this 30 degree day.  We cleaned up then wandered the town

Alison AddicksHi Tricia and Ken,
So pleased to see you back in Europe again this year. And as Rudolph inspired you, you guys inspired me to give cycling touring a go 12 years ago. And of course the rest is history. Hopefully we dill catch up again one of these years, as we did in Bayeaux , Franc e all those years ago. Our cycle this year is from Austria to Scotland and we hope to go r Scotland through France next year and return to Austria. Keep safe and enjoy. XX
