The wild horses of Camas
I think there might be a Roma camp near the bike trail into Sevilla just west of the Guadalquivir. Yesterday at this spot there were four unkempt horses with no owner in sight. Today I noticed a possible shantytown and a few people who may be its residents.
Today we had the blessing of perfect weather between two storm systems. In the morning we hopped on our bikes and visited Itálica, a Roman town that is still in the process of being carefully excavated. We were among the first to arrive, and almost had the place to ourselves. The caretakers put an unusual amount of trust in their visitors. You can roam around pretty freely among the passages of the amphitheater, and you can stand close to the well-preserved floor mosaics. This is all outside and unprotected from the elements.
Then it was off to Sevilla. We followed the river to Parque de María Louisa, where we explored the paths, ending at the magnificent Plaza de España. We ate a picnic lunch there and walked from one end to the other
By the time we reached the Real Alcázar, they were closing up shop. We’ll come back tomorrow, probably by bus this time.
