Four easy pieces
We slept until 9:00 for the first time. I guess we needed it after yesterday. We had breakfast at the hotel, and made a grocery stop. It must have been after 10:00 before we got going. No matter, there was time to spare. Once we reached the Atlantic, there was no place left to ride. At least not on this tour.
We took breaks in Trebujena and Jerez de la Frontera. There were supposed to be five hills to tackle today, but we took one look at the road leading up to Mesas de Asta and decided to go around it. Actually it wasn’t that bad. We were just feeling lazy.
A more solid navigation choice came when we hit dirt trails outside Jerez. We backtracked a bit then circled around the entire southern half of the city to stay on pavement. It added four kilometers to the ride, but anything is better than trudging through mud again.
We passed a cool park with a solid canopy of sea pines, and before we knew it, we had arrived in Puerto de Santa Maria. We visited the grocery yet again, then found the very nice campground. We set up camp, cooked, and visited the beach. Now we are settled into our tent listening to the sounds of fútbol practice on the nearby lit field. It’s quite pleasant, actually, and we know they have to go home sometime.
Tomorrow we will take our bikes on the ferry to Cádiz and explore the city.
