Day 9: Seville

We begin with a great breakfast in a nearby cafe and then spent the next few hours in the Alcazar - a thrilling experience, one of those rare architectural sights that stuns by its beauty and uniqueness.  It alone is sufficient reason have come to Seville.

The Alcazar. A wonderful site, unlike anything either of us had ever seen before this.

After that we visited the cathedral and its soaring bell tower, La Giralda.  Fine of course, but a bit of a letdown after the Alcazar.  And then we sat down to a mediocre lunch at one of a series of streets lined with cafes and bars near the monuments.

In the evening we wandered over to the Plaza de España, had another less than satisfactory meal, and then attended a somewhat overly emotional and dramatized flamenco act.  At our front row table we enjoyed visiting with our table companions, a couple from Montreal.

The Plaza de España, created in 1929 for the Alberto-American World’s Fair.

The Plaza de España is lined with many alcoves like this one, featuring a different province of Spain.

Patrick O'HaraThat's much more beautiful than the stainless steel plates embedded into the sidewalk naming the major cities of Canada near our Olympic Oval from the 2010 Olympics.

Scott AndersonTo Patrick O'HaraIt really is a striking place. Every one of the alcoves is different and worth attention.
