Day 4: Ronda

We decided that sitting out the day and enjoying a leisurely exploration of the town was the best plan for recovering my health.  It was bad enough that I went to bed last night anxious that I might have strep throat.

It was the right thing to do, and we had a lovely, relaxing day, taking a longish walk down from the city to the plain below to get a good view of the New Bridge.

Puente Nuevo, the New Bridge, joins Ronda’s two halves by spanning the sheer-sided chasm of the Guadalevin River.

Taking a short hike out of town was an excellent use of the layover day, and gave us a chance to see the town and its amazing cliffs from the outside.

We ate at outdoors at a sidewalk restaurant for dinner, and experienced a unique fiasco When a different waitress from our original one took over our table and tried to bring us the bill before the main courses had even arrived.  We couldn’t explain what was amiss, and had no time because we were in a hurry to leave for a flamenco performance.  We were at the point of giving up when the original waitress arrived with our cold orders.

Flamenco was wonderful, performed by a trio of women - a well known principal accompanied by two of her students.  Really a great evening.
