Prague: A day off
We were horrified this morning to wake up and hear the news of the Christchurch earthquake. It is certainly a blessing that there has been no loss of life. So pleased to find that neither Jan nor Joss had any significant damage. This has even hit the Czech news as the lady we bought our metro tickets told us about it although of course we already knew
Ken has managed to work out a creditable route from here to Linz. Will have to start using the GPS as we haven't been using it because our maps have been so good.
The day has been spent seeing the sights of Praque. Clearly to see it properly would take much longer than we have. We have however been to two concerts. A midday one at Prague Castle with a trio of flute, piano and viola playing 'Pearls of Czech Music'. At this we were pleased that the pianist played a piano arrangement of Smetana's Moldau ( it is Vltava in the Czech Republic). Also had a good look around the museum there - there was an excellent audio guide and I was pleased to learn a little of the rich cultural heritage of this country.
The evening one at St Nicholas Church with organ and trumpet - Bach, Handel and Purcell. Ken in particular enjoyed the trumpets
