Melk
Riding along the Danube Cycle Way is easy and relaxing. It seemed particularly so for me now that my front brakes aren't on all the time. We had decided that we would take it very gently along here stopping lots and just doing small distances to give ourselves a bit of a rest. It was a lovely surprise that the weather was nice and sunny so we were able to enjoy all the little villages along the way. Lots and lots of cycle tourists of course. By the look of it most of them seem to be on organized tours either big groups all with identical bikes and a minder at front and rear. Others like the very nice Danish couple we met doing it by themselves but with their baggage carried and accommodation booked. We were a bit worried about finding somewhere to stay especially as we had decided to stop at Melk, a baroque town with a massive Benedictine Abbey holding watch on the town from a rocky promontory above it. However despite the massive numbers in town we had no trouble at all and got somewhere at the first place we called into. Tourist cruises of course are going up and down the Danube and a fair number of the visitors were of the boats we saw on the moored on the way into town. It's also a place where tour buses stop so with all that and the myriad of cyclists the place is fair humming
