Grein: We reach the Danube and the end of Stage Three
We were really looking forward to a good down hill run to the Danube and after about 12 km of undulations we got it. Travelling was fast and furious. It was interupted only when we had a steep and long uphill to see the Concentration Camp at Mauthausen. It seems appalling that such terrible things should happen in such beautiful and pristine countryside.
We joined the Danube Radweg. There seemed huge numbers of other cyclists it was rather like being on the Auckland Motorway at rush hour. Progress was very fast at first then I began to flag and got slower and slower and could only go in the low range of gears. I must say when we got here it became apparent that it was not me that was the problem but the fact that somehow my front brakes had got jammed on - rater a relief. My bike is now in the bike hospital and will be discharged in the morning
