CZECH REPUBLIC Litomerice: They have WIFI in the Czech Repubic
Ken has been extremely impressed by the biking culture in Germany.
'Bikes are everywhere in Germany as far as we could tell every adult has one and uses it to do little or longer trips. Having a Porshe or a Citroen the garage doesn't stop them.
They are nearly all road going tourers - large road bikes on 28 inch tyres. All have carriers, lights, mud guards and a bell. All have gears - about half chain gears and the other half hub gears varying from 3 to 8 but most commonly 7 gears. Some have sprung front forks most don't. In the bike shops nearly all of those on display are tourers - racing and mountain bikes are rare. Women all ride on ladies frame bikes and that includes the many touring women we have see,
All businesses have bike stands outside and they are well used. Cyclists ride on footpaths and the bell is essential to warn pedestrians. Nearly all roads have a cycle way alongside, often on both sides. It is usually quite separate from the road making cycling truly safe. Helmets are rarely worn.
Good bye to Germany and hello to the Czech Republic
