No rest for the wicked
This was supposed to be a rest day, hiking the trails of Turkey Run state park. Because we spent so much time yesterday investigating the pros and cons of the American health care system, we didn't make it to Turkey Run yesterday.
We did catch a break from mother nature. Instead of yesterday's headwind, we had blue skies, perfect riding temperature, and a tailwind.
We continued our animal and crop investigations. Note how much taller the corn is compared to last week.

Corn is the only grain we can reliably identify. Everything else looks the same to us.
We do slightly better identifying animals. We know these are sheep because of their sheepish behavior.

The crops in Indiana are taller and the birds are definetly bigger.
The farms we passed today were enormous. When farms consolidate, the rural population drops. Eventually underpopulated schools get closed and towns start to die. We stopped for lunch at the Cozy Corner in Waveland. The food was great, but the town is not doing well.

Turkey Run is a delightful park. The heart of the park is Sugar Creek, which flows through several state parks before joining the Wabash. The creek provides an animal migration corridor between Shades state park and Turkey Run.
