Smell of the southern ocean

Port Wakefield to Wallaroo

Today’s ride was a comparatively short 65km with a decent hill climb (about 20km from Port Wakefield) and steady north westerly wind.

We’ve arrived at the coastal hamlet of Wallaroo by early afternoon, and we will stay here overnight because there is a ferry service from the Wallaroo (Yorke Peninsula) to Lucky Bay (Cowell) on the Eyre Peninsula. The next sailing isn’t until tomorrow at about 12 noon, so we’ll have plenty of time to catch up on maintenance, laundry and some extra rest.

It’s two weeks since we departed Canberra. The tally so far:

- 1364 km cycled
- 3 state borders crossed
- 8 media interviews
- 1 broken spoke
- 3 flat tyres
- 1 salted caramel milkshake
- 1 rest day
- 0 dog chases
- Pub parmie meals = lost count

View from the cabin in the Wallaroo caravan park. Not too shabby.
