In Le Tréport: a photo gallery

First off, thanks to everyone for your words of sympathy, concern, and offers to help.  It’s really helped keep our morale up during a pretty discouraging time.  And just a quick update on how we’re doing, a day after that horrible train adventure.  Rachael seems significantly better than even a few days ago, and as we speak she’s staring at the map looking for ideas for a hike she’d like to take tomorrow.  Nearly normal.

I’m not normal of course (no comments, please), but I’m strikingly improved over how I was when I woke up, and feeling steadily better all day.  We started out the day with Rachael walking to the visitor center to find out the location of the nearest clinic or hospital I could be seen if I didn’t improve, but unless I flatten myself again I don’t see the need.

We spent a good part of the afternoon planning out what’s next once we’re ready to start moving again; but for those of you who’ve been worrying about us I think you can relax a bit.

(An afterthought.  Note the date - this was written two days ago, and a lot has happened since then.  We can look at this as a point in time snapshot when we look back on this someday.  So maybe don’t relax too much just yet.)

________

I thought Le Tréport was really a beautiful spot and was glad we were here for a few days to give time to look around.  Rachael hardly left the room at all except to go to the store or dinner, but on both of our layover days I went out on foot.  This group is from the first day - in Le Tréport itself, down to its lighthouse, and along the beach below the cliffs that rise up right behind it.  one of these days I’ll find the time and energy to say more, but not now.  I don’t think I’ll forget.

Bob KoreisThe flag had me wondering. Turns out the city was liberated by a Canadian division.

Scott AndersonTo Bob KoreisOh, I forgot. I’d meant to at least caption of this one. The flagpoles along the waterfront all sport maple leaves, so I looked it up to. The city was liberated by the third Canadian Division on 9/1/1944 - eighty years ago this month. Maybe they’re flying no in commemoration.

Looking across the mouth of the Bresle to Merse-Les-Bains, which a separate gallery from my second walk will cover eventually. Cliffs over there too, you’ll notice.

Scott AndersonTo Karen PoretThis was an interesting guy. He had lines strung out all along the pier and was working them the whole time I was out.

Jacquie GaudetI like the colour scheme clearly selected by the town, though it would look better on a warmer day!

Scott AndersonTo Jacquie GaudetI do also. It’s really an attractive place. I like the sky with it too, although it would have been easier to enjoy with a more moderate breeze.

Eva WaltersSo glad you're both feeling better, and what a relief to see your post after a few days of silence! It's lucky you had booked three nights in a nice apartment, so you have a comfortable resting place after the terrible train-travel day. Take it easy, you guys, and don't push yourselves.

Betsy EvansI'm just catching up on everyone's journals after a very busy month of tending to some family things. I'm so sorry to hear that you've both been sick. I hope it'll soon be behind you.

Scott AndersonTo Eva WaltersThanks, Eva. We are taking it easy. Other than moving on by train we don’t have anything else committed for the next two months. Well just work it out as we go.
