In Céret: Saturday market

With rain in the forecast from dawn to dusk today, we weren’t hopeful of venturing out for much more than a lunch run. It’s part of the reason we both opted for longer outings yesterday, expecting we’d be getting a day of rest today. To our surprise though the forecast changed overnight and indicated that it would stay dry until ten when we woke up this morning. Wanting to make something of the day and especially wanting to see Céret’s Saturday market that Rich and Robin had talked up last over dinner last night, I went out for a look as soon as it got light just after eight. After I’d been out for an hour I checked the weather on my phone and saw that now rain wasn’t predicted until around noon or one I called Rachael to nudge her out the door too.

I got a good look around town and at the market, she got in her own look (and picked up a small umbrella there for the expected rainy days ahead)and a five mile walk besides, and we capped it off with another fine lunch. Umbrellas were just starting to pop out on the street outside when we finished our meal and headed back to our room.

Two or three hours later though we went out again after the rain unexpectedly stopped for the day. Rachael put in another five or six miles walking back along part of the route she enjoyed yesterday, and I paid a visit to the modern art museum. An unexpectedly fine day.

I’ll post my trip to the museum separately, but here are some shots from my walkabout this morning. Céret really is a charming place, and Rich and Robin were right - it really is an excellent market. It’s especially appealing seeing many of the displays backdropped by plane trees and other features of the colorful town.

This wall surprised me at first. I puzzled over it for a minute trying to decide if it was art or not.
