Getting Started

I’m planning to explore Slovenia by bike but first I have to get there.  For reasons not interesting enough to go into, I flew into Venice, put my bike together and have taken a train to Trieste on the Slovenian border.

My bike has S&S couplings which allow the frame to part into two pieces.  This then means that the whole bike will fit into a bag that is within the dimensions allowed by airlines before they consider it oversized. On the plus side this saves money and the packed bike is more wieldy/less unwieldy than a bike that doesn’t break in two.  On the minus side there is a lot more taking apart and putting together when packing and unpacking.

My loaded bike is tough to push and park but once I’m onboard it’s a dream ride that glides along.  Unfortunately I have no pictures of me gliding along: please imagine if you would like.

Enough for now.  In an hour I’ll see what Trieste has to say for itself.

Trieste is a nice city. I stayed in a bed and breakfast in an apartment I the centre. It’s called “Punto 8” and was very good, including a secure place to keep my bike overnight.

I strolled the streets, it was a warm evening and many revelers were about having a good time. I watched the sunset, ate some pizza and went to bed.
