RT 66 Day 27-Crosswinds & Climbing

Last night chef Chris cooked us up some fine vittles for dinner. One small can of Chef Boyardee, two packages of Ramen noodles, with a side of Dorito chips. We washed it all down with some warm tap water. We’re living large on a Friday night at the KOA.

Day 27 turned into a tough ride due to high S winds and 3k of climbing. Of course we started out the day changing a flat (#4).

Bethany WallI wondered how much more climbing there would be in the miles that remain...

Among other things Route 66 tells a story of economic obsolescence as described on the plaque in the next photo. This gas station was built in 1927.

Bethany WallAppreciate this history... and it seems history continues to repeat itself with the building of interstates and bypass roads across the country...

We’ve come to realize that when you see a multitude of turbine windmills, you’re in for a windy day on the bike. It turns out that Texas isn’t the only red state that is a big producer of wind power. This renewable energy source now accounts for more than 10% of electrical energy capacity in the US.

Our KOA Kabin for the night. On to OKC on Sunday, hopefully not as hilly and the wind out of the SW.
