RT 66 Day 26-Pedaling through OK

RT 66 Day 26 continued our eastward trek to OKC. Fairly easy 47 mile ride that took us through several small OK towns including Sayre, Elk City and Canute.

RT 66 is often referred to as the Mother Road.

Old town theaters still find ways to stay open.

It seems every small business on RT 66 tries to capture the allure of the road.

We’re not sure what the Root 66 signage stands for, but we’ve seen several.

We’ve passed hundreds of motels in the small towns we’ve ridden through. This one was still in business but the majority seem to have closed shop.

Like this one. Not sure I want to stay in the Cotton Boll…

I’m tempted to take one of these signs home with me. But that would be wrong. Right?

Karen PoretAnd, illegal! If caught you will be really sorry..especially in a smaller town with police who have “nothing better to do”.

After passing quite a few RT 66 museums, most closed, we spent the $4 and checked this one out in Elk City.

We think this museum film mention was a nod to the RT 66 car culture and drive-in movies.

Canute is a small town with big murals. And one nice restaurant called The Family Tradition’s Grill. Super friendly and asked many questions about our ride.

Our beacon from the ever present I-40 overpass-KOA. There have been two constants on this trip…KOA and I-40. We’ll say goodbye to I-40 in OKC.
