Phetchabun - The sixteenth step ... From Bác Hồ to กรุงเทพมหานคร - CycleBlaze

Phetchabun

An easy ride down the back roads to Phetchabun.  We did get a little bit lost at one point, simply because we were enjoying the cycling and stopping to look at birds and we lost track of the route.  This added about five hilly kilometers on to the journey but in the end we arrived in Phetchabun, a large provincial capital.

Apart from our enforced detour, which was through some low hills covered in natural vegetation, we cycled through rice paddies and vegetable fields.

Fortunately the road was flanked by tall trees for much of the time so we were well shielded from the sun.

Our first choice of hotel was full so we have ended up at a large aparthotel.  It is run by a loquacious Thai lady who spent time in Germany and who has a German partner.  She babbles away at me in German which makes her easier to understand than if she were speaking Thai.

The hotel backs onto one of Phetchabun's canals.  Bird life there is busy but it is mostly run of the mill stuff.  I had commened to my son a few days ago that many of the common species we were expecting to see have not been around but since we have left the Mekong they have started to appear again.

Two for the price of one. A Black Drongo (Dicrurus macrocercus) and a Spotted Dove (Spilopelia chinensis).
