Pak Chong - The sixteenth step ... From Bác Hồ to กรุงเทพมหานคร - CycleBlaze

Pak Chong

We woke to the sound of elephants in the campground area close by.  Someone must have phoned for help because, by the time it was light enough to see what was happening, the campground was full of rangers.  The only sign we got of the elephants were two muffled trumpets and lots of crashing through the trees.

At about seven o'clock we toiled up the hill to Highway 12.  Today's ride was the first time we had real hills on this trip.  Over six hundred meters of climbing but more than balanced by twice the meters in descent.  The difficulty was that the grades were mostly between eight and fourteen degrees.

An elephant and a guar at the park entrance.

The route through the mountains was really beautiful.   Deep valleys and high mountains covered in lush broad leaf forests with lots of bamboo, pine and dipterocarpus as well.

Just before the last climb of the day we crossed the Huai Tong Bridge, the highest in Thailand.

We're spending the night at a newish motel, usually referred to as a resort in Thailand, just outside the little village of of Pak Chong, about fifteen kilometers east of Lom Sak.  It's clean and has a very nice swimming pool of which we made use. However, the English instructions for guests were quite entertaining,  particularly point 3.
