Day 7 - Rheinfelden (Germany) to Strasbourg (France)

Stop in Basel and our First Mid Tour Train Ride

We decided to take our first mid tour train ride today.

With travel in and out of Frankfurt, we really only had 12 days to ride on the Rhine route (EV15). We would love to have done the whole route, but realistically at our pace we only had the ability to pedal so far. We realized mid way through the first week that at our current pace we probably wouldn't be able to make it to the famous middle Rhine section of the ride with all the scenic castles and vineyards. So we opted to take a train from Basel to Strasbourg and increase our chances of hitting the section from Mainz to Koblenz that we were prioritizing a little bit. (More on that in the coming entries)

Interesting tunnel in Rheinfelden with some sort of story text on the wall. I'm trying to use Google Translate to make sense of it but I couldn't figure out how the lines wrapped when each line of text stretches for about 300 feet

As we got into Basel we headed towards the train station to make some plans for a late afternoon train to Strasbourg. Going into and through the Basel train station there were some amazing bike tunnels/paths through the garages and below the train stations. I wish I could have filmed us pedaling through some of those, but I had just badly bent some seat braces on my bike and was too focused on not doing further damage to get out the phone and document a little more.

I keep bending the brackets that brace my seat back from the center tube of my Cruzbike. I REALLY crunched them up today though and had to spend a little extra time bending them back

You can see how mangled the brace is on the left

Steve Miller/GrampiesThat's not bent. It is seriously twisted! Watch out that metal fatigue doesn't result in total breakage. It would really be a shame to have your trip come to a crashing halt.

After checking out the Tinguely Fountain, we headed back to the train station (and taking the accelerated path with a local bike party) then took a quick (80 minute) ride up to Strasbourg France. We arrived just before 7 PM local time.

Seen on the train from Basel to Strasbourg. I'm guessing this means it's okay to talk on your cell phone

This was inside our car on the same train and I'm guessing this means to put your phone in silent mode, or maybe to not talk on your cell phone in this specific cabin
