Day 8: Ipswich to Logan
Today's is a repositioning ride. We've knocked off the rail trail up in the hills and now need to relocate to within cooee of tomorrow morning's parkrun back in the city.
The Navigator had limited options in plotting the route; Ipswich City and Logan City are separated by large green spaces and the direct route is alongside expressways. So it's not at all memorable for scenic appeal. More memorable is the quality of the so-called cycle lanes we experience today. We should know, having a similar experience last week when cycling up from the Gold Coast. Once again, we are seduced by separate pathways, pleased by wide shoulders and perplexed and frustrated when these suddenly end, and then have to ride at times on grass verges and gravel run-offs in order to accommodate the needs of cars.
Cycling infrastructure is slowly evolving in Queensland . . but I'm not sure the same can be said for those blokes behind the wheel of their big vehicles who feel obliged to honk at cyclists daring to ride on their roads.

After filling time at yet another bakery, we turn up at the front gate of Matt and Dawn's Air BnB unit just before 2pm. This is an idyllic spot on a large plot of land amongst rural residential homes. They've added a self-contained unit onto their home for family visiting from overseas, as well as for geriatric cycle tourists.
We have time to wash the bikes, shop for food and - for me - to write this journal out on the deck, enjoying raucous birdsong, before dusk falls.
Today's ride: 56 km (35 miles)
Total: 373 km (232 miles)
