Sep 20 - Apple Capital Loop Trail

Woke up to sunny skies and temperatures already feeling warmer than most of what we have done so far this trip. But we also saw the wind for the first time as well. It does seem, at times, that cycling is all about the weather. Not too hot, not too cold, not too windy, and never when rain or snow is falling out the sky.
The Apple Capital Loop Trail is best divided into three parts: The West Loop, The East Loop, and the Out n Back to the Lincoln Rock Park.
The West Loop is a mixture of parks and industrial areas. Nice to ride through but a lot of trail users and little ups and downs as you weave your way around. The industrial part is just that … apple packing plants and nothing is terms of nature to see. The path surface varies quite a bit.

The East Loop is much the opposite except now you are cycling next to a major roadway although you do escape it in part when you reach the southern point and when you also reach the northern point. The path surface is much better and there are far fewer trail users.
The final section, the Out and Back to Lincoln Rock State Park, is where this trail truly shines. You are out of the city, the trail users are mostly cyclists but you have the stark contrast of the apple orchards and the high prairies side by side depending on whether there is irrigation or not. We really enjoyed this section.
Overall a nice ride in a place that one would not necessarily expect and a nice break in the distance between the Seattle zone and the Spokane zone.
Today's ride: 29 miles (47 km)
Total: 7,870 miles (12,666 km)
