Oct 11 - Travel Day

Believe there are two types of travel days … the leaving for the trip, and the coming back home.  One is exciting, the other isn’t quite so.

Fortunately we only had one flight starting in Seattle.  Unfortunately TSA wasn’t the most efficient government entity as we stood in line for an extended amount of time.  I guess you only need 4 agents to man 8 stations.

Fortunately we made it through we enough time to get to our flight.  Unfortunately an Alaska Airlines agent decided to hassle us about one of the bike boxes despite their “fly free” policy regarding bikes. Fortunately the other agent took charge of the situation and eventually just slapped an heavy tag on one box despite the fact the two boxes are identical with identical trikes in side them.

Fortunately boarding the plane was easy and we got a row without the third person giving us extra room.  Unfortunately the baggage handlers loaded the plane incorrectly so we sat on the tarmac an extra 45 minutes while all the baggage came off and got put back on the right way.  Fortunately the pilot opted to “add” a little extra speed and with the tailwinds so our flight was under the normal time.  Unfortunately 1 hour and 15 minutes before arrival, the same pilot had the plane prep early for landing due to “severe turbulence.”  Fortunately the turbulence never showed up and the flight was quite smooth.

Unfortunately the pilot landed the plane extremely hard and I had flashbacks of a military flight where we did the same thing and blew out the left side tires causing a lot of excitement.  But, fortunately, in the end one of our daughters and granddaughters were there to greet us, all of our bags and boxes arrived unscathed, the house was warm and we are now back home.
