July 15 - Aug 23 … The Busyness of Summer

I feel like I’ve dropped the ball as I haven’t enter anything into this journal since mid July.  It is now nearing the latter part of August but that is summer in Alaska.

Summer is coming to an end when the sunflowers fully bloom.

We just got done with our final visit of friends and family and a wedding for a relative who is moving to Alaska and the house is back to normal after 5 weeks.

We spent the day moving trikes around, cleaning up the debris in the garage, swapping trikes so that we can get a few miles on our traveling trikes, and “re-setting” up the Trike Studio so we can continue to get some miles in.

The last several weeks have been one day of rain after another with a few rides sneaking in between days of wet and rainy weather.

Lots of rain with Fall in the air … the butterflies are in their final stages.

Bill ShaneyfeltComma butterfly. There are about 4 species in that area, all look similar and all are quite variable, but the fine photo settles it for me to be a green comma. Not being a lepidopterist, and not living in the area, my ID is suspect.

The good news is we are now down to 3 weeks before we head out to explore the Pacific Northwest, a place we haven’t cycled for over 20 years.  We are also getting in a lot of “baby” time with granddaughter #5 which is simply the best job ever.
