In Lagos

A pleasant Sunday off the bikes today.

We went out for breakfast as our little hotel doesn’t offer it. Not as many choices on a Sunday morning but how many do you need?  Al found a place called “The Studio” which is a sideline of a company that roasts its coffee in Luz and offers coffee bean subscriptions.

We each ordered a large flat white. Very good but another shot of espresso in it would have made it better. The cups came right full; we had to taste before I thought to get a pic.

Breakfast: yogurt granola bowl for me, Belgian waffle for Al, both with red fruit. They actually seemed a big small after the buffet breakfasts we’ve been scarfing down!

We walked around a bit before heading back to our room to get ready for the next part of our day.

Not every street in the old town is done up.

This is at the end of the block in the photo above. It’s a mural, not tiles.

Next up was the beach.

Leaving the hotel, beach bound. I was standing over my bike about where Al is yesterday when I checked my navigation—and there it was.

We walked through the Praça do Infante Don Henrique.

The portico of the modern Slave Market Museum is where slaves that survived 40 days of quarantine were paraded in chains and sold, beginning in 1444.

The Praça is lined with these trees that have unusual (to me) seeds or seed pods.

Jacquie GaudetTo Bill ShaneyfeltThanks, Bill. Another one where I’ve heard the name but never seen/noticed the tree.

Equipped with the beach mat we picked up yesterday and wearing our swimming attire under our clothes, we returned to Praia da Batata, or more accurately, the far end of it reached through a rock cut and called Praia da Caldeira (according to Google Maps).  The water was cool but not any colder than around Vancouver in the summer. We both went for multiple short swims.

We swam through the gap under the arch bridge and around the rock to the left in the photo.

Before we got too chilled from being in the water or too burnt from sitting in the sun, we headed back to our room to clean up and go for another meal.

Our first sangria of the trip!

I had a caprese salad again, Al had a tuna salad, and we remembered to order bread

We were entertained as we ate by Ron Baggerman playing his 10-string Stick guitar.

Jacquie GaudetTo Patrick O'HaraIt looked more like the ones from Stick Enterprises when I looked it up. I forgot to mention that he carries all his gear on a bicycle.

Then some more walking. Eventually we crossed the river on the pedestrian bridge as we plan to do on our bikes when we leave tomorrow. The first few docks of the marina are full of tour boats.

Walking back along the promenade, you can see the many many kiosks selling boat tours, kayak tours, dolphin-watching tours…
