After our usual oatmeal breakfast we packed up
leisurely and left our cabin at the check out time of 10AM and headed
to the Salvation Army cafe (known in Oz as the Salvos) for a final
pot of tea and a sticky bun. Then having more time to waste before
our 12.45 train we spent some time in the public library before going
to the railway station where we split the S&S couplers making the
rear half of the tandem the length of single bike to fit into the
bike space in the goods compartment.
Mary got into conversation with the lady sitting opposite us who was knitting a beanie for her daughter and when we got home Mary went online and found a copy of the pattern and has now knitted one for herself. Our travelling companion was going to a larger town up the line to take delivery of her new motor car.
We had clear path through the shared suburban network tracks and arrived at Melbourne Southern Cross on time at 16.40.
We bolted the tandem back together and made our way to the
suburban tracks and managed to board a not too crowded Belgrave "Five
oclock Flyer" which after leaving the city loop ran express with
our station Mitcham being only the third stop. From Mitcham we had an
easy 4km downhill run to home.
